On the first day in office President Barack Obama summoned top military officials to the White House to chart a new course in Iraq and the daunting Middle East diplomacy. Aides circulated the draft that proposes closing the Guantanamo Bay detention center within the year and halt all war crimes trials in the meantime.




On his first day in office the 44TH President moved to swiftly impose new rules on Government transparency and ethics, as he used his first full day in office to freeze salaries of his senior Aides, mandate new limits on lobbyists and demand more Government disclosures. These new moves overturned two policies of his predecessor. This was a sign that the new president is making an effort to emphasize an across the board shift in priorities, values and tone.




President, first lady outshine entertainment stars at the military’s inaugural celebration. When the president emerged waving from a giant backdrop lit with stars and stripes, the troops, including 300 invited wounded warriors from Walter Reed Army Medical Center and their families, erupted in jubilation. Obama shook hands with the senior enlisted advisers of the five services before taking the podium, pledging to work hard for the military and their families, while continuing his call for national unity and service.
